  • Reduce Freeze-Thaw Damage:
    Acts as pressure relief chambers for freezing water (which expands ~9% in volume), preventing internal cracking and surface spalling by accommodating expansion in discrete voids in cold or harsh climates .
  • Enhance Workability :
    The tiny, spherical air bubbles behave like "ball bearings," reducing friction between aggregates and cement paste—improving plasticity, cohesiveness, and pumpability while reducing segregation and bleeding without increasing water content, balancing consistency and strength requirements.
  • Durability Improvement:
    Reduces permeability and enhances resistance to scaling from deicing salts, extending long-term structural service life .
  • Microstructural Optimization: 
    Creates a stable air-void system (typically 4–8% by volume) with controlled spacing (2 mm) to mitigate capillary pressure and stress accumulation .
